Matt Haehl is a lifelong Shelbyville resident who graduated from Shelbyville High School in 1996. He received his bachelor’s degree in business management from Purdue University in 2000. Matt is married to his wife, Jenni, and they have two children, Brock and Sydney. Matt is the Vice President of Sales and Operations for Shelby Materials. He currently serves on the Board of Directors for the Shelbyville Boys and Girls Club and is a past President and Director for the Shelby County Babe Ruth. In his free time, he enjoys watching his children’s sports and activities, traveling, and proudly supporting Purdue football and basketball.
SCS Foundation Board
Dr. Vance is currently serving as superintendent of Shelbyville Central Schools. Previously, he served eight years as the superintendent in nearby Rush County Schools, with 27 years of overall educational experience. A graduate of Franklin College, Dr. Vance went on to earn a master’s degree from Indiana Wesleyan University before earning his Education Specialist and Ph.D. degrees from Indiana State University.
He started his career at Greensburg High School as a teacher and coach, continuing on to Greenfield-Central High School where he taught, coached, and later served as athletic director and assistant principal. He was the next principal at Tri Jr./Sr. High School and then assumed that same position at his alma mater Rushville High School, becoming superintendent of Rush County Schools in 2014. As a side note, Vance actually started his coaching career in 1992 at Shelbyville High School while attending college, coaching football under Scott Olinger.
Beau Browning was raised in Shelbyville, Indiana and currently resides in Fishers with his wife, Mary. He sits on the Board of Directors for both the Shelby County Chamber of Commerce and for the local United Fund in Shelby County (SCUFFY), where he served as the 2014 Annual Drive Chair. Beau also co-chairs the Major Business Partners Committee through the Major Hospital Foundation, supporting its annual fundraising drive. He serves on the Finance Committee of the Blue River Community Foundation, volunteers as an active member of the Knights of Columbus Sacred Heart Council (#822), and is a parishioner of St. Louis de Montfont Catholic Church in Fishers. In his free time he enjoys travel and sports.
Michelle Karmire is a dedicated and passionate individual with a lifelong commitment to serving her community of Shelby County. With a strong background in education, Michelle has spent 33 years as a teacher at Shelbyville Central Schools, retiring in May 2024. Her educational journey includes a Bachelor of Science in Education from Indiana University and a Master of Education in Education Administration from the University of Indianapolis.
Beyond her teaching career, Michelle actively contributes to her community through various roles, including serving on the Shelby County Special Olympics board, coaching their swim team, and assisting as the Goat Superintendent at the Shelby County Fair. She is also a dedicated volunteer with HOSTS at Brandywine Elementary and a member of the Community Relations Committee for MHP.
Michelle's passion extends to animal welfare, particularly for goats. In her free time, she enjoys traveling and spending time with her family. She possesses valuable experience in education and community leadership, coupled with strong communication and organizational skills, and is eager to continue positively impacting her community.
Matt Nolley earned his B.S. from Purdue University. He then earned an MBA with a focus in accounting and marketing from Indiana University Kelley School of Business and a J.D. from Indiana University Robert H. McKinney School of Law. Matt is President of the Riley Area Development Corporation, serves on the Indianapolis Zoo Associate Council as Zoolala Chair and is a member of the 1816 (Indiana State Museum), Logistics & Corporate Partnership Committee.
Michelle Babcock is the Business Manager of Shelbyville Central Schools. Mrs. Babcock attended Huntington University and graduated with Honors in her bachelor’s degrees in Business Administration and Human Resource. Mrs. Babcock also attended Indiana Association of School Business Officials where she earned her certification as Certified Business Officer. She has recently been accepted into IASBO’s two-year Leadership Academy. In addition to serving on the SCS Foundation Board, Mrs. Babcock is on the Board of Central Indiana School Employees’ Insurance Trust, where she serves on the Administrative, Finance and Clinic Oversight Committees. Mrs. Babcock is a resident of Shelby County. She is married to (RET.)1SG Shawn Babcock, they have two children and are expecting their first grandchild.
Floyd K. Hastings is a lifelong resident of Shelbyville, IN and graduated from Shelbyville High School in 1980. Floyd is married to his wife, Jennifer. They have three grown children and one grandson. Floyd was employed with the Shelbyville Police Department for 28 years. He was a Reserve Officer for five years, was then hired full time in 1996 and retired in 2016. He currently works as a Reserve Officer for the Shelbyville Police Department and is a Resource Officer for the Shelbyville Central Schools. Floyd was the D.A.R.E. Officer for 17 years of his career and continues to serve in that capacity. Floyd is a member of the Shelby Lodge #28 F.&A.M. and Shelby Lodge F.O.P # 84. In his spare time, he likes woodworking and baking special desserts upon requests.
Gayle is a native of Shelbyville and graduated from Shelbyville High School in 1974. She then graduated with honors from Ball State University with a Bachelor of Science degree in Elementary Education in 1978 and a Master of Arts degree with endorsements in social studies and science in 1981.
Ms. Wiley taught second grade at North Decatur Elementary school for nine years, and sixth grade at Shelbyville Middle School for two years. She also substituted across all grade levels for several years until deciding to run for the first elected Shelbyville Central School Board. Over the years Gayle represented the board for the Special Education Co-Op, also as secretary, Vice President and President. She served as President again during the past two years (2019-2021), having proudly served for a total of 24 years, retiring at the end of 2021.
During the years she was substitute teaching Gayle was busy raising her two children, son Will Brunner, SHS class of 2005 and daughter Drew Brunner Devilla, SHS class of 2013. Ms. Wiley also studied with the Dyslexia Institute of Indiana to become a Specialist in Dyslexia using Orton Gillingham, and has been tutoring children with reading disabilities for 15 years.
In addition to the Shelbyville Central Education Foundation, Ms. Wiley is also currently serving on the board of directors of the Shelby County Public Library. She is a member of the Diligent Diggers Garden Club, which funds and maintains the library gardens. Gayle is also a member of the First United Methodist Church. She has been a past member of the Shelby County Arts Council, Mainstreet, Hometown Heritage Preservation group, Psi Iota Xi, and other civic and philanthropic organizations throughout the years. Outside of her keen interest in public education, other interests include reading, gardening, history, preservation, and genealogy. Most of all, she is enjoying her four wonderful grandchildren.
